8 Best Things to Do on Valentine’s Day

Valentine’s Day is just two weeks away — how time flies! While some people think it’s a made-up Hallmark holiday, I love that it’s a day to celebrate love, whether romantic love, familial love, platonic love, or self-love. Of course, we should be letting our loved ones know we care all year long, but it’s an annual reminder to take a step back and appreciate the love in all its forms. Here are eight things to do this Valentine’s Day:

2020 — Our first Valentine’s Day together checking out the meteor crater near Flagstaff, AZ

2021 — Our second Valentine’s weekend together, renting a cabin in Flagstaff, AZ

Cook together — Most dates involve eating, but how about cooking a meal together? Make one of your favorite meals or try a new recipe. Then light candles, play soft background music, grab a drink, and spend quality time together.

Cozy up in cute, comfy clothes — Whether it’s after dinner or you skip going out altogether, there’s nothing better than changing into loungewear as soon as you get home. Brett bought me a couple of pairs of the softest socks for Christmas, and I can’t wait to slip into them after our Valentine’s dinner.

Enjoy something sweet — Valentine’s Day isn’t complete without a decadent dessert or chocolate. Growing up, it was tradition for my mom to buy me a box of my favorite truffles every Valentine’s Day, and oh, how I miss those days.

FaceTime a friend — Don’t forget about your long-distance girlfriends. You can even arrange a dinner or movie date like you are physically together. We’re all busy people, so it’s important to remember to nurture those long-distance friendships.

Have a Galentine’s dinner — Round up the besties for dinner at a favorite restaurant or host a potluck where everyone brings a dish to share. We went to The Shaved Duck one year, which was so fun.

Have a picnic — Enjoy a picnic outside and watch the sunset. For those who are local, we always order from Mingle + Graze. If you would rather skip takeout, you can make your charcuterie board or use whatever else you have at home.

Indulge in self-care — Do a face mask or pamper yourself by getting a manicure/pedicure. Snuggle up with a good book, take a well-deserved nap; treat yourself to a massage; do nothing without feeling guilty.

Watch a rom-com — Snuggle up in bed or on the couch for a good rom-com. My favorites are How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days, Picture This, Pretty Woman, The Proposal, and The Wedding Planner.

So what are your plans for Valentine’s Day? Chime in with more suggestions in the comments! xo

These are such great ideas! Before kids we opted for a brunch instead of dinner because the prices are much more reasonable!

I did buy some sweets for my boys and my husband and I usually make them a homemade card. We usually plan a family dinner that everyone likes and watch a movie or tv show together.
